The Recommended – Patrice Bäumel

One of Amsterdam’s finest, Patrice Bäumel, has gained infamy for his dark, atmospheric sets. A good example of this, is his latest mix for Tale of Us’ Afterlife. A haunting mix that drivers the listener through a range of emotions, underpinned by a driving techno force.

Bäumel has a truly distinctive sound. I first came onto the artist after hearing the monumental ‘Surge’ at Dynamic festival 2016. Since then, it has been a fixture in a collection of dark halls that I have scanned across Europe. A track that builds in intensity, with no rush to get to its climax, Surge is a tantric dance floor weapon.

The history of Bäumel is notable, including a residency at the decadent, but now defunct Trouw in Amsterdam, including working with with a number of outstanding labels such as Get Physical, K7, Systematic, Diynamic, Trouw, Turbo, Kompakt and My Favorite Robot.

2017 is to be a big year for Patrice, which places him a firm recommend to all dance music enthusiasts, DJs and AR’s. His forthcoming release ‘Glutes’ has been shrouded in mystery for the past three months. It was played to acclaim by Adriatique at a sold out DGTL festival in Amsterdam in April. The room cheered as the track spewed dark elements of bass through the shipyard air.

You can find ‘Glutes‘ on Afterlife Records, released on Friday 12th May. For a preview and purchase, check it out here. Eyeing up the future, through smoky rooms in dark cellars and tall warehouses with kaleidoscope lights, things are looking promising for the Dutch producer.

With his proclaimed ‘’techno for grown ups’’, expect to find Bäumel shoulder to shoulder with Solomun during his upcoming Pacha show in June, alongside Tale of Us at their Ibiza Privilege residency in both June and August, alongside a true wealth of other countries and festivals.

Certainly one for your new playlist.
