After a full two days of talks and debates plus roof top drinks and parties, it’s always rather impressive to see so many people ready and waiting in the conference room for the final day of talks and debates at IMS!
Day 3 opened with The Great Annual Ibiza Debate which is always a popular debate at IMS. A panel of nine came together including Juan Arnau Jr (elrow Family; Founder & CEO; Spain) and Nick Yates (Paradise; Promoter; Ibiza). The discussion focussed mainly on how expensive the island has become and how a whole generation have been priced out of experiencing the Ibiza older generations loved and grew up with. Nick Yates commented “The government is sucking the life out of the island. Young clubland kids are getting completely alienated.” and Juan Arnau added “when one clubs puts up their door or drink prices – all others follow suit”.
20 YEARS OF COCOON followed with Cocoon founder Sven Väth and Ralph Moore (Mixmag / Acetate Management; Editor At Large / Director, UK). Highlights from the past 20 years were uncovered by Sven. He told us that Kraftwerk Computerwelt is the album of his life and he has always followed them along with Underworld being his best memory from his rave days in the 90s. On the politics of the club scene he said: “Once we were friends now we are competitors. There was no tension, it was an easy thing to do to throw a party.” And on after parties these days: “Throwing an after party is a pain in the ass. We loved to do our guerilla after parties…Freaks celebrating love peace and music.”.
SHESAID.SO returned to the stage to present a talk titled “Investigating Intersectionality” with the talk focussing on understanding how diversity exists beyond gender, panelist Skin from Skunkananse said; “I used to be asked what inspiration I used to write my music. Was it my blackness, was it my queerness, my gender? How am I supposed to separate myself like that?”.
As the final day of talks came to a close, it was time to make our way to the beautiful Old Town of Ibiza for the closing Dalt Villa IMS Party! Despite wet weather, the turn out was impressive however with names like Luciano, David Morales, Adam Beyer, Ida Engberg and Charlotte De Witte on the bill – we were not surprised that people were happy to dance the night away under stars and with a little rain!
The IMS Dalt Villa party is truly such a special party and holds on to the true essence of Ibiza – the best in electronic music coupled with the stunning backdrop of the beautiful island – it really doesn’t get much better than that! If you haven’t been to this party, put it on your list of parties to go to – you won’t be disappointed!
