As the ancient Chinese proverb goes “A straight foot is not afraid of a crooked shoe” which to me, roughly translates into “be prepared to dance.” Taking these emphatic words into account I sought out one of the latest kids on the block that is making a not so quiet underground stir. Enter Wax On Wax Off borne in Birmingham with an international appeal.
Whilst everyone has their own philosophy on life and how to celebrate, the Electric Mode team primarily love to meet with friends, socialise, party and listen to our favourite records and discover hidden gems. Wax On Wax Off (WOWO) delivers on all accounts, with a fluency rarely touched by others.
“Every so often a party comes along that really stamps a mark and makes a noted difference to the saturated club industry, they instantly stand out … head and shoulders way above the norm.”
The driving force behind this party include Owen Taylor from long term international house legends Deep City Soul, Billy Bayliss from Glas, Lee Dearn the label boss of Secret Reels and Scott Quinn. Collectively these guys have all made a firm mark on the industry and for the purpose of Wax On Wax Off fanatics uphold a strict rule of playing vinyl records only. That said it isn’t primarily a reminiscent or retrospective party, expect the latest cuts from the worlds best and alternate record labels. Wax On engages an energy that is the holy grail of club nights and promoters, setting a solid sonic foundation and up-keeping the social element at the same time.
Needless to say, we love to dance and the local residents and guest DJs that WOWO proudly promote continuously provide in abundance. The crowds are always a mix of music heads and ardent clubbers alike and in the resounding theme of the iconic Mr Miyagi, keep it very cool. The next edition appears at Lab 11 in Birmingham on Saturday 1st July with friend and fellow mover and shaker James Dexter.
Having spent several years immersed in the London underground House scene, James is a name well recognised, releasing music across a number of respected and influential labels Poker Flat, Dessous, Holic Trax, Roush, Elrow, Cyclic Records, Unblock Music, Bondage Music & Little Helpers to name only a few. James productions have earned him regular features and a continued chart success across all the leading digital download sites including Beatport & Traxsource, taking in Top 100 positioning on a regular basis. Support for Dexter’s lengthy discography has come in the form of Steve Bug, Damian Lazarus, Marco Carola, Joseph Capriati, Shlomi Aber, Tuccillo, Dusky, Sante, Sidney Charles, Ian Pooley so he is definitely a name to watch.
Delivering his productions and DJ sets with a well-rounded combination of groove driven, low end bass, deep and underground sounds, James has set a formula that keeps the club moving until the very early hours. Now turning his amassed experience toward his own label Inermu, James is able to showcase his own productions alongside breaking talents he wants to provide a platform to reach a greater audience.
Notwithstanding, it is very safe to say that the 1st July edition of Wax On Wax Off that will not only sell out in advance, but also be full of all the correct heads to ensure a great party. Grab your advance tickets here and we’ll see you on the dancefloor.
