It is set to be a scorching month. This is both climatically and musically. Naturally, the two mix seamlessly. A hot number to get your month started can be found on the 4th, with the release of Lehar & Musumeci’s ‘Lotus EP’. Appearing on Endless records, this is a must have EP for any summer time DJ sets, as the featured track ‘Jungle Eyes’ has shown already, creating a true storm at Diynamic Festival this May. Check it out here.
Well, there’s more. With an absolute tonne of fresh music to uncover in the month of August, expect to get your trainers dirty and your mind blown. Wan’t more? I can show you the door, but it is you who will have to walk through it. Let us begin.
DGTL Barcelona takes place on the 11-13th August. It is the sister festival of the Amsterdam edition bearing the same name. Four stages come together, bringing the hardest DJs at the top of the game, along with emerging, genre pushing talent. There will be sun, afterparties and the latest in house and techno. The only question now is will Barcelona top the Amsterdam edition?
There is so much talent on display for DGTL, but the key acts of this festival are Solomun, Jeff Mills, Adriatique and the ‘new queen of techno’ – Amelie Lens. Similar in intensity, with a promise of the most fantastic sunrises on earth, is Sonus Festival, taking place from 20th-24th. Again, techno is the order of the day, with an extended lineup boasting ‘The King’ Carl Cox and Adam Beyer.
Something important to note here is the spread of boutique and often flawless techno festivals spreading throughout the world. Smaller in size, these festivals focus on quality over quantity. Not only does this signify a rise in popularity for the genre, it also allows the sound to take on new influences, as global talent mix it up in a variety of new zones. This allows for an interaction between underground sounds across a cornucopia of rave contexts. More fans, more competition, more creativity. 2017 is a great year for techno music, no longer relegated to after hours at festivals, or dark halls in a cold Eastern Europe.
Still not satisfied? Then look no further than Mykonos, Greece. An island known for its diversity of tourists, from health kickers to party monsters, there is a new edition in 2017. This is the reformed super club ‘VOID’. Filling an ‘empty space’ in Myconian nightlife. There is a promise of the super club, whose refurbishment has brought with it a monumental August line-up that looks to fill the VOID, leaving global ravers salivating.
Situated in the heart of Mykonos town, VOID boasts a legendary Funktion One Soundsystem and invigorating lineup. All of this in mere walking distance from the island’s hub of bars, hotels and restaurants. With each event scheduled to run from 1am – 7am, VOID’s event programme is set to compete with Ibiza, one step at a time. After checking out the lineup and the views, this writer knows where he’ll be this August. There is a guarantee, that in attending these events, you will discover the sounds of the underground and the future all in one.
