I Don’t Want to Be Underground or Commercial — I Just Want to Be Me
This summer, Janina returned to Ibiza with her Triplevisions residency, curating nights that felt raw, emotional, and entirely from the heart. From house to techno, from legendary DJs to fresh faces, every night was designed to give the island something new, a little rebellion against the mainstream, a little magic on the dancefloor. We dive into Janina’s reflections on the season, her approach to curating lineups, the moments that stood out on the dancefloor, and the philosophy behind keeping Ibiza’s scene alive.
- This summer marked the return of your Triplevisions residency in Ibiza. Looking back now that the season is wrapping up, how would you describe the journey this year?
It was a very interesting season for me. I simply followed my instinct and created the lineup straight from the heart, without overthinking or holding back any emotion and suddenly, I realised I had built something that Ibiza really needed. Fresh, exciting DJs who hadn’t played there for a long time, or in some cases, ever. I could feel the energy on the dancefloor at every party, I saw it in people’s eyes and felt it in their energy. It was something truly beautiful.. a gift from the sky to be able to make people happy and offer them something different.
- Triplevisions has become known for its intimate, connection driven atmosphere. What was most important to you when curating the vibe and experience this year?
Most importantly, what mattered to me was that everyone, the DJs, dancers, staff, and myself felt good, free, and welcome. I do this to make people and myself happy. That’s always the main intention for me.
- You’ve spoken before about Triplevisions being a reflection of your artistic identity, how do you feel that identity has evolved over the course of the season?
I was able to play different sets each night, from house to electro and techno. It was something challenging, which I really enjoy, as it allows me to stay connected with different music styles.
- The lineup this year was incredibly diverse, from legends like Radio Slave, Petre Inspirescu, Dana Ruh and many more. How do you approach the process of selecting artists to join you for Triplevisions?
I play very diverse music, from house to techno and that’s why the lineups don’t follow just one sound, just like my own DJ sets. I didn’t create them with any big plan to be “underground” or “commercial”; I simply invited everyone from the bottom of my heart. Of course, I also tried to bring in other musicians, because there are already so many great DJs playing in Ibiza. It didn’t make sense to book the same names again, so I wanted to offer something different, to give the island a fresh experience. I don’t want to be labeled underground or commercial; I just want to be myself and invite DJs I’d genuinely love to hear when I go out.
- Which night or moment from this summer stands out as a personal highlight for you, and why? Was there a set or guest performance that particularly surprised or inspired you?
Anthony Rother was definitely something very special. The sweat was dripping from the ceiling.. it was so hot and packed. For me, it’s not about being sold out, but about seeing people truly grateful to have Anthony in Ibiza, playing in the smallest club on the island. It was a pure rave. But honestly, every night had its own special vibe.
- Ibiza’s club landscape is dominated by big commercial names, yet Triplevisions has carved out a space for deeper, underground sounds. How do you see your role within that ecosystem?
As I already mentioned, I’m happy for everyone in Ibiza who’s creating nights, playing, or organising parties on the island. We’re all different and that’s a good thing. It’s important to give people different vibes and music throughout the season. I don’t compare myself to others, I’m just happy for all of us here on the island.
- With over 20 years behind the decks, how do you keep challenging yourself creatively when programming and performing events like this?
It’s a challenge finding different music for each night on an island without a record shop.
- What do you think the underground scene in Ibiza needs more of, and how can artists and promoters contribute to that shift?
The most important thing is that we don’t go against each other. That’s what underground stands for, and it’s what I miss most these days, being good to each other and not trying to be better than someone else. We’re all in this little world together, and the last thing we need is competition.
- After such a great summer, what’s next for you? creatively and personally once the season wraps?
I need a break 🙂 I will also be focusing on more showcases worldwide and concentrating on my label Triplevisions.
- Finally, if you could describe Triplevisions 2025 in three words, what would they be?
Diverse, Happy, Love
