A string progression born in silence, a voice carrying the weight of a fractured relationship, and an unexpected return to the emotional nuance of her early career, “Maybe I Already Know” arrived on 5 December introducing a different side of Hanna Haïs.
The single was released last 5 December on Beatport, Spotify and Instagram, with a full rollout scheduled for 19 December through Donkela Music. “Maybe I Already Know” presents a deeper, more introspective atmosphere than the Afro-Tech catalogue that has defined much of Hanna Haïs’ recent output. Built around strings, plucked textures and a vocal line that sets the emotional tone from the very first sentence, the track reconnects the French artist with sensibilities present in the early years of her career.
“Maybe I Already Know” began with a string arrangement that became the spine of the entire track. From this starting point, Hanna layered percussive elements, plucks, kick and supporting textures until the emotional arc of the piece found its shape. The story centres on a relationship that is breaking apart — something captured immediately by the opening line, “I left my heart with you tonight.”
The vocal performance is the track’s focal point and the detail to which listeners are invited to pay closest attention. It fulfils a role that is usually Hanna’s own, yet she chose not to sing on this release. The result is a piece built around distance, vulnerability and unresolved feelings, framed by the warmth of the string section and the spacious architecture of the production.
In her creative notes, Hanna explains that this track differs from her recent catalogue because it echoes the introspective tone of her early work. “It’s a much deeper and more introspective track, similar to what I was doing at the beginning of my career, but this time it’s not me singing,” she says. The choice to work with another voice gives the narrative a different emotional register and expands the textural possibilities of the arrangement.
The personal element behind the release was shaped by a difficult moment during the summer, when Hanna spent significant time caring for her sister, who was seriously ill. “I think that this experience led me to produce a track with a deeper emotional meaning,” she notes. The circumstances brought an internal focus that guided both the mood and the structure of the composition.
Although Hanna regularly performs across the African continent, she emphasises that this particular track was not influenced by audience energy or club experiences but by her own emotional landscape. “In this case, it wasn’t the audience that inspired me, but my personal life and my relationship with my sister,” she explains. The result is a piece built for introspection rather than the dancefloor, yet still connected to the rhythmic precision that defines her work.
Hanna Haïs is a French artist known for her presence within Afro-House and Afro-Tech scenes, as well as her long-standing connection with African dance floors. With releases that combine vocal sensibility, percussive identity and melodic depth, she continues to explore new creative territories while maintaining a signature rooted in both emotional expression and rhythmic craftsmanship.
“Maybe I Already Know” opened a new chapter in Hanna Haïs’ musical trajectory, signalling a shift towards more intimate and emotionally driven compositions while maintaining the clarity and structure of her signature sound. The track was released last 5 December via Donkela Music, with the full release available from 19 December.
