Berlin’s Get Physical Music continues its legacy of forward-thinking house with the latest release from Nigerian-born, Barcelona-based DJ and producer Momoda, who makes his label debut with Give Me Time – a warm, soulful house cut that marks a defining moment in his evolving production journey. In an accompanying interview with Electric Mode, Momoda reflects on the creative process behind the track, the significance of releasing on one of his long-standing dream labels, and the broader musical path that has led him to this moment.
Long regarded as a tastemaker within underground scenes spanning Lagos, Beirut, and Barcelona, Momoda has spent over a decade refining a sound that fluidly blends house, Afro, and melodic influences. Give Me Time sees him channelling that experience into a track built around patience, emotion, and musical restraint – qualities that align naturally with Get Physical’s ethos of depth-driven dance music.
The release arrives as part of Momoda’s latest EP on the Berlin label, with Give Me Time standing out as a soulful centrepiece. Built initially from a melodic idea, the track gradually unfolds through warm chords, rolling percussion, and a carefully chosen vocal that anchors its emotional core. According to Momoda, the vocal was the final – and decisive – element in completing the record, shaping both its mood and its longevity across club systems and deeper listening contexts.
“I don’t produce with a label in mind,” he explains. “But once a track is finished, we think about where it truly belongs. With Give Me Time, Get Physical was the dream home.” – Momoda (Electric Mode Interview)
That placement feels particularly apt. Get Physical’s catalogue has long championed soulful, genre-blurring house, and Momoda’s debut reinforces that lineage while bringing his own background and perspective into the fold. Having played an instrumental role in nurturing Nigeria’s early house movement in the early 2010s, his musical foundation is rooted as much in community-building as it is in club culture – an influence that continues to shape both his DJ sets and productions today.
Give Me Time also signals a period of creative momentum. Following the success of his 2024 debut EP and a Top 10 placement on Beatport’s Melodic House chart, Momoda is now firmly in a production-focused chapter. A second Get Physical release, Crash Goes Love, is already confirmed for March, while a recent move to Ibiza has sparked a new wave of studio output, including forthcoming originals and remixes .
For now, Give Me Time stands as both a statement and an introduction – a soulful house record that reflects years of musical instinct, refined into a moment that feels entirely earned.
Interview: Momoda on ‘Give Me Time’ and His Get Physical Debut
In conversation with Electric Mode, Momoda discusses the creative process behind Give Me Time, his debut on Get Physical Music, and how his background as a DJ continues to shape his evolving sound as he enters a new chapter based in Ibiza.
Hi Momoda! Congratulations on your release on Get Physical Music. How does it feel to step onto the label with “Give Me Time,” and what does this moment represent for you personally?
Thank you, feels great as this has been one of my go to labels over the years and to finally be able to release an EP feels like great step in my career, and the process made it special to work with such a great team.
When producing “Give Me Time,” what was the first element you locked in? Rhythm, harmony, vocal idea, or overall mood? And how did that initial decision shape the rest of the track’s structure?
First started with a melody which is one of the main elements in the track, this helps the work flow and direction I decided to go with.
Vocals play a central emotional role in this release. From a production standpoint, how did you work with the vocal to preserve its character while making sure it translates effectively across club systems and streaming platforms?
For me the track was complete when I found the vocals, it took the longest time because I wanted to find a vocal that really fits and helps translate the emotions behind it.
At what point in the production process did “Give Me Time” start to feel finished to you, and what final adjustments helped you commit to that version?
The vocals 😉
How do you balance making music that works in clubs while still holding depth for deeper listening moments?
Not sure there is a formula for that, some feelings translate differently when making music and feel like they can be played at any moment, and some others work more for specific times. It’s a feeling thing.
Get Physical has a strong history of soulful and forward thinking house music. Why did this track feel right for the label?
I don’t produce with a label in mind, but when tracks are finished I sit down with my team and we think about what the ‘dream label’ would be for a certain track. In this case, we set the goal of getting it over to the team at GPM.
You’ve been active since 2012. How do you feel your sound and mindset have evolved over the years?
I’ve been active longer than that, I joined Beatport from inception, I spent hours and hours digging for music before I started djing or producing. Also watching so many good artists and DJs over the years helped shape my sound.
How does your approach to DJing influence the way you produce music, or vice versa?
I always write with my own sets in mind. I’ll often think of a moment in the set and use this to start the production process.
Does “Give Me Time” signal a new direction for you sonically, or is it a continuation of a longer journey?
It’s a continuation of my sound. I’m evolving as an artist – being my second release I’m still learning every day (you should never stop learning!) and upgrading my production techniques.
What’s next for you following “Give Me Time”? Are there new releases, collaborations, or directions you’re already exploring?
We’re working on a second release with Get Physical – it’s called Crash Goes Love and will be coming out on the 13th March. Aside from that I’ve just moved to Ibiza and I’ve been making a lot of new music, some exciting remixes and some originals as well.
With Give Me Time, Momoda’s debut on Get Physical Music lands as both a personal milestone and a natural evolution of his sound. Rooted in melody, guided by instinct, and anchored by soulful vocal work, the release reflects years spent on dancefloors across continents – and a producer now confidently translating that experience into the studio. As he settles into life in Ibiza and prepares his next Get Physical release, Crash Goes Love, this chapter signals a focused and creatively charged period ahead, with Give Me Time setting the tone for what’s to come.
