With over three decades of experience behind the decks, Doc Martin has built a career defined by musical exploration, connection and a deep understanding of what moves a crowd. Ahead of the release of his new ‘West Coast Transmissions’ EP on REK’D alongside longtime collaborator Homero Espinosa, these selections offer an insight into the sounds and influences that have shaped his sets, productions and enduring relationship with the dancefloor. More than personal favourites, they represent the energy, emotion and storytelling that continue to define his approach to electronic music.

Phaedra – Deep Street – Straylight

This track always finds its way into the playlist. Its flow of bass and beats gets the floor going. Then the big quirky old school Chicago piano is the icing on the cake. It is always a great surprise song that stands out. Such a big tune at the right time.

Dino Lenny – House of Magic – Bedrock

I absolutely love this record. It always turns the dancefloor inside out. I loved the original mixes of this, but this mix takes it up a notch and then some. The raw energy and vibe alone are incredible. Not that Dino Lenny could do any wrong anyway.

Julio Montes & Luis Fontalvo – Monkey – Definitive 

This funky squelcher of a groove works great on the big dancefloors. The raw energy of this cut speaks volumes. It is definitely a peak time people mover. The buildup of this song is insane. It recently found its way back into my playlist and will not be leaving it for a while.

Jerimiah – Moves – Coiners Den

This record holds a special place in my heart. This mix, along with the other 12 inch with the green stamp, was and still is a staple at our Sublevel parties. I even got to remix this for Jerimiah for a vinyl release. It always creates a thick vibe on the dancefloor.

Radio Slave – The Lunatics – Rekids

Radio Slave hit a home run on this one. I love that it is also a dedication to Terry Hall of The Specials. A great late night or morning cut, it sets up the next part of the journey in any set. A highly recommended vibe lifter and perfect for genre illiterate crowds.

Unknown – Baby Baby Please – Art

I really played this record to death. The way the breakbeat comes in and out of Thelma Houston’s vocals is magic. It has all the right elements to lift any dancefloor. The stabs and bass changes keep the groove moving upwards. A perfect way to put an exclamation point on any night.

Liz Torres – Can’t Get Enough – State Street Records

This record brings me back to my house music roots. Liz Torres, the queen of house, was the first act that I ever booked. It is everything that house music is supposed to be. Deep, sensual music that makes you want to move. A perfect 4am song for my sets at our underground events in Los Angeles.

Run DMC – It’s Like That (Raxon Edit) – Unreleased

This mix really hits home for me. Sadly, it never got a proper release. It has been in heavy rotation since Raxon blessed me with it. It is a floor demolisher that sends the night into orbit every time. It brings me back to my childhood, when hip hop was king.

Alexander Robotnick & Lapo Lombardi – Effai – The Analog Session

I have been an Alexander Robotnick fan since the 80s. Along with Ludas Pinsky, this track really rocks. You cannot help but start moving to it. It has such a strong groove, and the subtle changes are great. Sometimes all you need are good drums and bass for the win. This will continue to be in the playlist for a while.

DJ Buck – 405 – F4 Music

I had to add one song from our West Coast fallen hero and good friend DJ Buck. I was able to license this for my Fabric CD. It screams West Coast sound and creates such a vibe on the floor. Some producers just have the touch that is uniquely their own. You will be missed dearly, my friend.
