Berlin’s Iconic Bar 25 Music Celebrates 20 Years With Definitive Anniversary Compilation

Born from Berlin’s legendary former club, the globally recognised Bar 25 Music label celebrates its 20th anniversary with ‘20 Years of Bar 25 Music’. The fifteen-track compilation brings together artists, collaborators and friends who have helped shape the imprint’s distinctive sound over the past two decades.

Founded in 2006 by Danny Faber, Bar 25 Music emerged from the original club on the banks of the Spree, initially providing a platform for the artists, residents and friends who helped create its unique musical identity and free-spirited culture. Twenty years on, the compilation celebrates the community, creativity and enduring spirit that continue to define the label.

The compilation reunites club residents, long-standing collaborators and friends from across the Bar 25 community, bringing together established electronic music artists and familiar faces from the label’s past. Rooted in personal connections, the selection celebrates its rich history while looking towards the future.

Among the highlights, Jo.Ke revisits ‘Thank You’ with newly recorded vocals, while Tobi Neumann reworks Gudrun Gut’s ‘Garten’. Robosonic and Laura Weider return to Weider’s legendary 40-hour piano performance at the Bar 25 circus in 2009, presenting a new Anniversary Mix that connects the original recording, its 2013 release and the present day. Mark Henning also contributes ‘Butcher’, a previously unreleased track unearthed from his archives.

The collection also features Rodriguez Jr., Frivolous, Oceanvs Orientalis, SCSI-9, Saktu, Niconé and David Hasert, Dole & Kom, Danny Faber, dOP and Pan-Pot. Together, the fifteen tracks capture two decades of musical exploration, creative freedom and the personal connections that have defined Bar 25 Music since its beginnings.

Bar25 began in 2004 on a strip of wasteland in Friedrichshain, Berlin, where a group of friends set up a sound system and started selling drinks. The improvised bar grew into a handmade village of club, restaurant, hostel, sauna and circus. Its parties, often running from Friday night into Monday or Tuesday, became known far beyond Berlin. When the club closed in 2010, its spirit continued through the label, carrying its music and visual world to dance floors around the world.

Across more than 270 releases, Bar 25 Music has moved from minimal and deep house into melodic and vocal house, indie dance and indie electronica, with groove at its core and an unconventional edge. The anniversary compilation brings those strands together without trying to reduce them to one sound.

‘20 Years Of Bar 25 Music’ moves between new recordings, anniversary originals, remixes and edits, alongside tracks revisited in a new context. Some have been waiting on hard drives for years. Reecode’s ‘Catching The Dawn’, opens the compilation with a remix from lorie that first appeared on SoundCloud and quietly gathered almost a quarter of a million plays. The label discovered it during its research for the anniversary and is now releasing it officially for the first time.

For Bar 25 Music, the anniversary is both a celebration of its legacy and a look towards the future. Staying true to the community, creative freedom and musical exploration that defined its beginnings, the label continues to champion new artists, sounds and directions.
