Youngster has made its way from European clubs to the Middle East, and now it’s hitting digital platforms, showing the musical evolution of the UK-based Luso-Angolan artist.

It’s hard to pick the standout moments from an artist who’s been in the game since 1997, starting in Luanda, Africa, and going on to smash it across Europe, from the UK to Poland. But Youngster is up there.

The original tune runs just over six minutes, taking listeners on a spacey journey with a nostalgic, sunset vibe. Influenced by London’s deep house scene—with funky basslines, long melodies, advanced chord progressions, and a solid groove—the track has been tested across clubs in Europe and the Middle East. Fun fact: it was first aired live on Bloop London radio back on 5th July 2021.

Youngster marks a new level of maturity for producer Leandro Silva, cementing his identity as a DJ who’s aiming even higher. From his early days at the iconic Elinga Bar in Luanda—a creative hub for local artists and still a reference point in the scene—to his releases on labels like Pokerflat and Manual Music, it all built up to the Leandro Silva we know today, aka Denker. He dropped Youngster via Igual Records on 28th August 2024, with a remix by Fred Aster.

Leandro Silva has DJed in some of the world’s best spots, including the UK, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Jordan. Along the way, he’s released music on labels like Pokerflat, Manual Music, Piston Recordings, and Melomane, and worked with artists like Mr. V, Robert Owens, Inaya Day, Wayne Tennant, Cinnamon Brown, Veselina Popova, and many more. His tunes have been backed by top names like Sasha, Manoo, Ashley Beedle, Jimpster, Phonique, Lars Behrenroth, Ramon Tapia, Don Diablo, Roger Sanchez, and a whole lot of others. His collab with Mr. V hit #23 on Beatport, catching the attention of the industry’s big players. Recently, he launched his own label, Igual Records, and debuted Youngster, with a remix by Fred Aster, a long-time collaborator. The two have shared plenty of DJ booths, and they’re gearing up to drop a new project soon. Talking about his creative process,

Leandro Silva said:

“It was a long journey. Youngster came out of studio sessions where I experimented with different sounds and approaches, drawing influence from Jan Jelinek, Jimpster, and the South African Aquatone, which led to a more abstract deep house vibe. Those sessions resulted in 12 tracks, some of which have already dropped on Igual Records.”

Fred Aster is an Angolan producer based in Luanda and the DJ behind Blur Records. He’s dropped several EPs on labels like Dobro Music and Rewind Ltd, and more recently, on Blur Records with Jazz Space Pool, French Cat, and What You Need in collaboration with Chemars. He also hosts the monthly radio show “Luanda Underground,” broadcast live on Radio Electronica in Germany. Aster’s got more releases on the way, including a remix for Leandro Silva and a new disco track with Scrucru, set to drop early September.

Youngster dropped on 28th August 2024 via Igual Records and is available on all major platforms.
