Get to Know: Belyi & Kirr, the duo behind Mr. Deejay
Words: Ruth Dixon

Belyi & Kirr’s “Mr. Deejay” was born from pure spontaneity. After a late-night set at Shady Pig, Kirr woke up the next morning with a melody stuck in his head. He went straight to the studio, laid down a demo within hours, and called Belyi to finish what they’d started.

The duo found the right vocalist to match the track’s warm atmosphere, creating something that feels like a conversation between artist, crowd, and DJ. Most of the production was completed that same day, with final touches added later to perfect the details.

“Mr. Deejay” combines organic Afro-inspired rhythms with melodic synths and soulful vocals, capturing that moment when the DJ and dancefloor become one—a track born from the kind of inspiration that only happens when music flows freely, beyond plans and expectations.

Was there anything unique or unexpected that you tried in the process of creating the track that might be interesting to fans?
During the production process, we were recommended a talented vocalist who performs at weddings and events. Jeremy appeared and was able to deliver an excellent soul vocal performance.

Looking ahead, what are your goals or plans for this year as an artist/DJ?
To develop our social media and show our vision of music, bringing together fans of stylish electronic music.

Do you have any interesting projects, shows, or collaborations in the pipeline? Or any recent career highlights that you are particularly proud of?
There is a project we are currently working on—it’s a hybrid live show at sunset. We don’t want to give away any details 😉

How do you think your sound or style has changed over time?
Since we started writing Afro house, we’ve developed a sound that’s different from other producers. Now we’re experimenting with the Latin Afro house sub-genre.

What has been the most valuable thing in your career as an artist/DJ?
One of the most valuable moments was when we released on the MoBlack Records label. Our track entered the top of the Beatport Afro House chart for a month, and Mimmo, the founder of the label, added our track to the 13th golden compilation on vinyl.

Do you have a dream collaboration or venue where you would like to perform one day?
We want to perform at various festivals around the world, especially Tomorrowland, Sonar, and Burning Man. And of course, we would love to play back-to-back with Solomun and Black Coffee.

What’s something fans might be surprised to learn about you?
I think our detailed biography might surprise them, but there’s too much to tell about that.
