With his 4th solo album ‘Cyclical’, DJ-Obey has successfully fused every element of house music; pairing thumping kicks with driving, euphoric rhythms and beautifully tranquil melodies to create this rich soundscape. The 25 track album truly pays homage to his passion and love for the pulsing heart of Midwest House and EDM music and, for fans of ‘Carl Cox’ and ‘Maceoplex’, this is certainly one to listen to.

Cyclical‘ is a fittingly perfect depiction of how EDM music can encapsulate the listener in a dense wall of sound where overlapping frequencies treat the ears to a stunning musical masterpiece.

Growing up in West Detroit, DJ-Obey has always enriched his life with music. Living just round the corner from Buy Rite Music meant he frequented going and collecting vinyls which is where his love for electronic music particularly blossomed. Despite music production starting as a hobby, DJ-Obey’s 2020 debut album elucidated the notion that this was a viable career for him. Henceforth, each of his subsequent releases have grown in quality thus inspiring a hopeful future for DJ-Obey in the EDM & House industry.

Introduce yourself in one paragraph:

Dj O-Bey, EDM Producer and Dj.I been experimenting and creating music since the 1990’s. I was more into Dj the scene first. But I was wanted to produce music. My first album was called Deep Force, the latest is called Cyclical.

Were you connected with music from a young age, or anyone in particular inspired you?

Since I was a kid I always liked listening to music and playing my casio keyboard. Growing up in the 80’s I was a huge fan of Prince, Disco, Rock and Pop artists.

What first kickstarted your musical career?

The Pandemic era 2020 gave me alot of free time to be creative so I invested my time creating beats and songs.

Tell us more about your sound and how it has evolved.

My sound is a mix of Acid House, Techno, Hip Hop beats, being that I love all three I just try to blend them all together.

Any words you want to share to encourage other artists and producers?

Be creative, find your own niche, style, etc. Music is competitive try to stay one step ahead or have something different to offer.

Networking, consistency, character, approach… what and how do you initiate your Industry relationships?

I’m independent and I’m still growing my fan base. Most of my connections came from submitting content to online A&R’s and Labels.

Is there anyone specific you’d like to thank that has helped you evolve and why?

All the artists in my lifetime that made legendary music and sounds.

Name 3 albums or labels that have inspired you the most.

Louder than bombs, Purple Rain, All Eyez on Me believe or not.

What’s your favourite piece of studio equipment or software?

I like some of Akai products, 808,909, Kontack, Pioneer Dj

Name your favourite club or festival in the world, and how does it makes you feel?

Movement Detroit, it makes me feel energetic!

Name an outlandish rider request?

I don’t really have one lol.

Favourite clubbing memory, who or what did it involve?

Too many to name, lol I like when someone takes me by surprise and starts dancing with me without me expecting it!

What quote represents you best?

Determination and drive keeps me alive!

If you could play any venue, where would it be and why?

Probably any venue during New Years, I would be drawn in by the energy.

What was your first music opportunity and how did it fuel your fire?
Was actually putting my first project out myself Deep Force, it grew from there.

Prior to that was Dj life.

Keep making music and hopefully doing alot of live shows.
