The Association for Electronic Music will host this conversation ‘Diversity Backstage As Well As Onstage’ to explore the barriers that exist in education and recruitment that prevent more underrepresented communities from getting involved in technical, studio and back stage roles.
With festival line ups being analysed and checked for diverse line ups, how are we as an industry ensuring that the backstage is reflective and representative of the dance floor and the stage, with this panels background in DJing, Agencies, Labels, Tech, Festivals and Clubs; they will take a 360 degree look at what the opportunities are; the potential solutions, and what can collectively improve the recruitment and education approach to ensure a vibrant and diverse board room, studio room and crew room.
The Panel will include speakers Sofia Ilyas who is the Chief Community Officer at Beatport and Nathan Jordan who is the Head of Inclusion at Defected. The conversation will be moderated by Thilini Jayawickrama who is Head of D&I, and AFEM.
